Advantages and Disadvantages of Same Day CEREC Crowns

June 6th, 2019 Posted by Cosmetic Dentistry 0 comments on “Advantages and Disadvantages of Same Day CEREC Crowns”

In the past, it would take two to three weeks to get a permanent crown in place. Today, thanks to CEREC® technology, patients can receive same day crowns. With this procedure, Dr. David S. Krishingner creates a 3D image of the individual’s mouth. This allows our team to create the crown and bond it within the same appointment. There are advantages and disadvantages of this procedure, but most patients find it a worthwhile endeavor.

Pro: It Looks and Feels Like a Natural Tooth

In the past, dental patients would complain about how the restoration did not blend in well with the surrounding teeth. Fortunately, these advanced crowns restore the shape of the mouth while being virtually undetectable. You will be able to eat all your favorite foods because it is just as strong as your other teeth.

Con: The Scanning May Not Detect Extended Fractures

If you need a crown to deal with a fracture in the tooth, then you may want to proceed with caution. The camera placed in your mouth will not be able to locate fractures below the gum line. Anyone concerned about this as a possibility should talk to Dr. Krishingner about other options.

Pro: It Requires Less Drilling

The recovery process is much faster with CEREC crowns. This is partly due to the fact the procedure does not require as much drilling. This means you get to retain more of your natural enamel.

Con: Only Certain Dentists Offer This Procedure

You do not have to worry about this disadvantage when you are at Water Oak Dental Group. Dentists offering these crowns require certification. Fortunately, our dentist has all the qualifications you would look for to feel confident.
