Why Go Through Orthodontics?

September 11th, 2019 Orthodontics 0 comments on “Why Go Through Orthodontics?”

Braces can be traced back to Egyptian times, which allows us to understand how long people have been in need of straightening their teeth. The practice of orthodontics is not just for aesthetics, as most would assume. Using braces and the importance of straightening your teeth allows for better oral care. When you have crooked teeth, there is more room for plaque buildup, which causes decaying issues. Being able to brush and floss all surfaces allows for overall good oral health, along with maintaining healthy gums.

From 1000 years ago, 10 years ago, and even today – orthodontics have improved through the times. Today, traditional braces and Invisalign are widely used in practices. The different methods allow patients the option to choose how they would like to straighten their teeth. The methods come at different price points, looks, and time of movement.

Traditional braces include metal wires and brackets that attach to the teeth. Most young adults go through this style of braces, as they are at a more affordable price point and are offered by most orthodontists. The metal brackets are attached to each tooth, where a wire is then inserted to create the pull for your teeth. The wire is attached to the brackets with rubber bands, which allows for stability and sometimes the chance to let the patient pick colors for them to enjoy.

If the metal look is not for you, then Invisalign is an option that is becoming popular. Invisalign is a system of trays that move your teeth over several months. Every few weeks, you will visit your doctor to get a new set of trays that will shift your teeth more as time goes on. These braces are flesh to your teeth, so they provide a near invisible way to straighten your teeth. Clear aligners are not fixed to your teeth, so they provide a more flexible way to get to your desired look.

There are many other ways to get your teeth to be perfectly straight. If you would benefit from straighter teeth, or just would like to know more information about the options, consult with your orthodontist. Your doctor will be able to go through everything you will need to know to get you to a smile you love.
